How to Prep your Skin for a Spray Tan

Now that we're coming into the warmer seasons, it's time to shed those layers, scrub your bod and unleash that beautiful bronzed Goddess in you😉 We all love a perfectly even spray tan, and the feeling that glowing glow gives us is amazing😍 Spray tanning provides a fresh, bronzed look, without being exposed to the dangerous UV rays from baking in the sun, and here, we give you advice on how to prepare for your spray tan in salon and how you can make it last that little bit longer👏.

The first step to a great spray tan is to exfoliate, and this is best done the evening before, or at least eight hours prior to your spray tan appointment. Exfoliation helps get rid of any dead skin cells on the top layer of your skin, and it is an important step as otherwise, your faux glow can look patchy and uneven. Exfoliating creates a smooth canvas for the tanning product to glide on and the application becomes effortless and faster. It also unclogs the pores to create an excellent base for your tanning solution and even removes residue from previous tans. It will also improve your skin texture and the quality of your tan, and therefore allows your skin to retain your tan for a longer period of time, yay!

Shaving or waxing should be done at least 24 hours prior to your spray tan appointment. This allows time for the skin to calm, ensuring a flawless and comfortable spray tan. If you shave or wax too close to your scheduled session, the spray tan may seep into your pores and produce dark dots. It can also cause irritation, especially if you have sensitive skin.

It's best to keep your skin as natural as possible prior to arriving for your spray tan appointment, so avoid using any lotions or oils on the day. Moisturizing after your spray tan is a must of course, paying particular attention to dry problem areas like the hands, elbows, knees and wrists. It's also best to avoid using any deodorants, makeup or perfume, as any product on your skin can interfere with the spray tan. In fact, the best time to apply spray tan is right after a shower, as your skin is then adequately hydrated and therefore will absorb the tanning product

quicker, which in turn, will result in a longer lasting tan.

It's best to wear dark, loose clothing to your spray tan appointment, as the excess color will rub off on your clothes, and if you feel comfortable doing so, going commando is the best way forward. Don't worry if you're rushing or have to come to your appointment straight from work, we have a selection of beautiful kaftans in the salon which you can purchase.
