Do these three things to overcome dry skin this winter

We know that the cooler air can dry our skin out. Changes in temperature, dry air/ heaters and air conditioning systems in offices. Soaps and alcohols in products can stripe the skins protective layer. Diabetes, thyroid conditions and skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema and dermatitis cause dryness in the skin.

Dry skin can feel rough to touch, bumpy, flaky, tight, sensitive, irritated, uncomfortable, and can look red, dry, dull, dehydrated and creepy in appearance.

Does this sound like your skin?

Lets look at three things you can do right now to overcome dry skin this winter-

1) Check the ingredients of your current skin care

2) Exfoliate your skin twice a week

3) Try adding a nourishing oil to your night time routine

Find out whats causing your skin to become dry, first lets take a closer look at your skincare products. Cleansers, toners, serums and moisturisers are a good place to start. Come on, lets got to the bathroom and have a look at the back of them.

Often if there are things in them that you can't pronounce then often they wont be good for your skin. Things to avoid are alcohols, artificial fragrance, colors and petrolatum. These can be found in cleansers and soaps but will more likely stripe the skin and disrupt the skins natural balance, may cause more dryness and irritation.

Ingredients in your moisturisers and serums should be water loving like hyaluronic acid that will hold on to water in the skin, antioxidants, skin repairing and healing ingredients like aloe vera, avocado oil, coconut oil and anti-inflammatory ingredients to calm skin.

Exfoliating your skin once or twice a week will help to gently remove any loose dead skin cells and reveal fresh skin. It will also help with the skin renewal process. Choose gentle facial exfoliators that contain chemical acids, AHA's alpha hydroxy acids work beautifully on dry skins as they exfoliate the skins surface and don't go as deep as the BHA's. Think lactic acid and glycolic acid. These are great ingredients. Physical exfoliators contain jojoba beads or salts to gently buff off dead skin cells.

Lastly try adding a oil to your night time skin care routine. We love Eco Tan's Glory Oil as it is abundant with super seed oils. The rich omega helps to repair the lipids lost through dryness. Improving the appearance of hydration, scars, fine lines and restores your skin to its true glory. A drenching certified organic blend of unique super seeds. Use 2 drops on the tips of your fingers on clean skin and gently press it in. Follow with a Jade or Rose Quartz Roller for a few mins to massage it in then follow with your night cream. Its so relaxing, hydrating and nourishing on the skin.

Book in for a facial treatment with us, we will take a look at your skin, do a thorough skin analysis, look at the skincare you are using at home, your lifestyle, nutrition and liquid intake then we can make recommendations to help you achieve the skin of your dreams by adjusting your home care routine and adding in a professional salon facial.
