A Guide for Practicing Holistic Self Love this Valentine's Day💗

Valentine's Day isn't just for couples, it's also about loving yourself and knowing that whatever way you're feeling, you need to be good to yourself. If you're run down and tired, give yourself time to rest and recuperate. If you're physically or emotionally hurt, allow yourself to grieve and heal. Here at Self Love Lounge, we regularly practice holistic self love in the form of mental, physical and spiritual awareness, and outline our favorite ways of doing so here.


Mental Well-being


We have been learning a great deal about our mental health, especially over the last year, and know how important it is to prioritize a healthy state-of-mind. A person’s mental health affects how they feel, think, behave and relate to others, and unfortunately, when our mental health is suffering, it can have a knock-on affect on all aspects of our life.


Luckily, we have discovered our own personal ways in how to keep our minds healthy and strong and we would love to share some of those tips with you:


  • Meditation 🧘 - this is our tried and trusted way to ease stress and anxiety, and we practice doing so daily. Lauren's favorite form of meditation is to listen to the guided meditation app Headspace, either in the morning, or going to bed at night (sometimes both, if she's feeling extra pressure!) It helps to ease your mind and racing thoughts after a busy or stressful day

  • Visualizations 👀 - We're huge fans of goal-setting, and all have our own personal Visual Boards. We find this helps us to keep track of our ambitions

  • Music 🎶 - let's be honest, who doesn't love to hear their favorite song come on your playlist? We truly believe that listening to uplifting and positive music helps us get through the day and the benefits include a boost to our mind and mental well-being. We have also introduced a soothing meditation by Kirsten Morrison to our facial treatment experience, which is guaranteed to help you relax and unwind.


Physical Well-being

  • Walking, hiking & running 🚶‍♀️ - now don't get us wrong, we're in no way out there pounding the pavements every single morning and evening! But we do move our bodies in some way most days, whether that be a walk with our dogs, cleaning the house for an hour or taking a stroll to a coffee shop on our break. It's so important for us to feel like we've made an effort to do some sort of movement for the day

  • Yoga & stretching 🧘🏽 - another great way we love to move our bodies is to practice yoga and stretches whenever we're feeling uptight and tense. Simply take 5 - 10 minutes out of your day, even whilst sitting at your desk, to do some deep neck, shoulder and back stretches, and you'll soon feel those aches and pains start to diminish

  • Nutritious food 🍉 - we're huge advocates of healthy eating, and recently wrote another blog on all of our favorite nourishing foods here. We truly believe that you feel fit and healthy if you start from the inside out.


Spiritual Well-being

  • Practicing gratitude 🤗 - it's so important for us to feel grateful for all of the wonderful things in our lives, as it can be quite easy to forget if you're having more bad days than good. Why not try writing some of them down?

  • Candles, crystals & essential oils 🕯️ - this is all the yummy stuff we love to pamper ourselves with 😊 We constantly light candles in the salon, and at home, and our favorite scent is our Fusion Candle in coconut and lime - delish! Crystals and essentials oils are also dotted all around the salon, and we're obsessed with our sage spray and use it constantly

  • Journaling ✍️ - have you ever had thoughts bouncing back and forth in your mind and not known how to grab onto just one? We hear you, and find that journaling helps to get all of those thoughts, frustrations and confusions out of your head and onto paper. We love reading back on old journals and discovering what we've learned from the experiences we've been through.
