Dermapen Microneedling treatment

These are the most commonly asked question when is comes to Microneedling. Luckily for you, we loved chatting about skin so pour a cuppa, were going to answer all your juicy questions. So you've most likely heard of the popular Dermapen treatment but aren't too sure what's involved in a treatment? Is it painful? What can I treat with microneedling? Or what are the benefits?

What are the benefits of microneedling?

1. Long lasting results

Microneedling specifically targets skin cells underneath to form long term results, not only that, but your skin will only get better and better each 28-30 day cycle as we work to treat and correct your skin concerns at a cellular level.

For the best results, consistency is key !

We recommend booking in for microneedling every 4-6 weeks depending on your skins needs and concern. Your beauty therapist will discuss at the time of your initial skin consultation. We begin with 3 treatments then adjust your treatment plan as needed and as your skin becomes healthier and rejuvenates on its on.

2. Its suitable for all skin types, ages, and skin conditions

You may be thinking 'my skin is looking pretty good, I take good care of it' or 'my skin concerns are too advanced and my fine lines and wrinkles too deep. Never fear, regardless of where your skin's at, there is no more perfect time than NOW to start your skin needling journey!

One of the top reasons to start microneedling today is that it’s suitable for virtually all skin types, colours, ages and concerns (and is pregnancy safe!). There really is no excuse for not taking the first step towards smoother skin !

3. It reinforces your skin's natural barrier

It should come as no surprise that external factors, over-exfoliation or using harsh products that strip the skin’s natural oils can damage your skin, leading to dry, flaky, or overly sensitive skin, or if you're acne prone, dehydration leading to the overproduction of sebum (oil) in your skin and breakouts.

A strong and healthy skin barrier is going to withstand everything the environment has to throw at it and when your skin's barrier is more resilient, it will consequently be less reactive, guarded against irritants and better at keeping moisture within the skin.

Microneedling stimulates fresh, healthy collagen in your skin and helps to promote a healthy skin barrier, super charges your cell turnover, and encourages your skin to produce fresh and healthy cells.

Is it painful?

The most common question when it comes to microneedling is “does it hurt?” and the answer is simple. Yes, microneedling used to be a lot more painful than it is today, which is probably where this myth originated, but the treatment of microneedling and the technology we use has changed a lot over time, especially with the introduction of the Dermapen 4™. Packed full of technical features, including the oscillating (up and down) motion, incredible speed, high quality needles, mean that a Dermapen Treatment is now so comfortable that numbing cream is no longer required. (Yay- we never liked that stuff anyway)

If the idea of needles still makes you a little nervous, you can take a Panadol tablet before you come in. Just make sure you don't have a nurofen as this reduces the inflammation in your skin, which is exactly what were trying to create. Honestly though, if I (who has no pain tolerance) can have microneedling done, and a peel added on top, post treatment. You'll be just fine =)

What can I treat with microneedling?

We can use the microneedling treatment on any of these skin concerns, its brilliant to rebuild healthy skin cells whether caused by aging, sun damage, or acne, oil skin or breakout scarring.

Acne

Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Pigmentation

What's downtime like after microneedling?

To be honest there isn't a lot of downtime after a treatment at all. Your skin may feel warm and tight for the first 24 hours almost like a mild sunburn. Then when you wake up the next day the redness will reduce and you can go back to normal activities. We just recommend, no excessive sweating for the first 48 hours to give the skin a chance to begin healing, so that hot yoga, running or visits to the sauna.

WINTER is actually the best time of year to have a course of treatments because :

  1. The cooler climate is better for the healing process.

  2. You're less likely to overheat and sweat.

  3. Comfort level following a course of microneedling is higher as it get cooler.

  4. The cooler climate boosts collagen, elastin and hydration in skin.
